Born And Raised…It All Comes On Without Warning

“Take your place…show your face to the morning…’cause one of these days you’ll be born and raised and it all comes on without warning.” –John Mayer

The lyrics above are from Born and Raised, a John Mayer song that’s been on my 2013 playlist (repeatedly), a song I enjoyed on my morning walk earlier today, a song I heard Mayer perform live in Dallas this summer.

I would’ve written about my concert experience sooner, but I was feeling sad that weekend and it turned out this was a moment I wanted to truly savor.

Mayer’s concerts (and music) can be soothing and comforting when you’re feeling the pressures of life, when you struggle to love, when you expect too much out of yourself and fall short, and when you want to be better than you were yesterday and aren’t quite there yet.

Upon arriving, I soon realized I’d missed the memo on the dress code. Everyone looked like they’d just stepped off of a sailboat. Clearly, I wasn’t the only one who noticed the evening trend.

Along with screaming, panting, and the fanning of oneself (or your girlfriend), I imagine relaxed, crossed legs are what a good Mayer fan offers up at his concerts. No puns here, really.

I couldn’t have asked for a better pick-me-up than to be serenaded by the lady’s man who can do no wrong in my eyes (because I understand you John, I really do). I was instantly cured of my melancholy mood the moment he stepped out onto the stage.

He played some of my favorite songs, Something Like Olivia, In Your Atmosphere, and Age of Worry. It was enough to get me running to the concert t-shirt booth. Luckily, they had the perfect sea green color for this convivial woman.

Although you’ve tuned into yet another episode of a crazed Mayer fan’s life, one that unfortunately does not include me and him backstage in a corner snuggled up like this– I gotta say, the floor seats and hearing him sing live was enough for me.

Did you take in a John Mayer concert, or other favorite artist, this summer?
